Principal rekstad addresses fathers

The Valley Vikings and their families joined the Million Fathers March on September 19th, and the turnout was absolutely incredible. Dads, uncles, brothers, grandfathers, and guardians joined the nationwide effort to show their commitment to the educational lives of their children.

Jacob’s grandfather, David Cupples, said, “As a three-generation Valley Viking family, it was amazing to see the kids’ excitement in learning and growing. The talk [Principal] Rekstad gave was heartfelt and inspiring. We are so lucky to have such amazing staff in our children’s education process and part of their lives.”

Mr. Cupples continued, “The Million Father March assembly is an awesome event, and I truly feel honored and a part of something great in the children’s upbringing. It’s heartwarming and brings out the ‘feel goods’ to my core.”

The talk Mr. Cupples referenced was indeed inspiring. Principal Rekstad brought the gentlemen together after the assembly and gave a warm call to action.

“You are your student’s first male role model, and your interactions can teach valuable social skills. By demonstrating patience, communication, and respect, father figures model how to navigate relationships.

Listen to me, men…you’ve just done all three of these things today in this short time. Build on this. Make some memories with your students this weekend.”

Zacherie’s father, Jonas Everett, too, felt inspired by the event, sharing, “This event was pretty amazing! We, as dads or father figures, felt celebrated because, you know, oftentimes it’s moms who get to celebrate with the kids. It really let my son know that I care about him and wanted to be with him at school. He knows that I am there to support him when an event like this happens.”

Before the extended Viking family set off on their march around campus, Principal Rekstad left them with some final words.

“This Million Fathers March is more than a one-day event. It's a call to action for your ongoing involvement, such as helping with homework, communicating with teachers, and participating in school and community activities. Join us today to make a difference in the life of your child!”
